How would you start a hypothesis about soil?

in my elementry school ive learned that we should start with "it is believed..." or "if....then" but the experiment i am doing is about 4 differemt types of soils and which soil would provide maximum drainage and still provide enough nutrients for the growth of lush and even lawn for a baseball stadium.
