Should i have been given out?

i was playing a match the other day and on the las ball, i got stumped. as i was walking off the umpire called a no ball (as the bowler oversteped). i was getting back to the crease and was stumped and given out. i believe that because no ball was called after being bowled, the ball should have been dead so i couldnt have been stumped.
