I have made a lot of mistakes in my education/career, how do I regain my confidence?

I got a master's that will probably never pay for itself (Religious Studies - no, not seminary), I quit my first job without another one to go to, and was consequently forced to take a minimum wage job I ended up getting fired from. Now I am back at home. How do I regain the confidence needed to try to relaunch my career? I feel like if I try anything even remotely risky, I will end up at home again.
