Vacation idea:Somewhere between Iowa and Wyoming?

I'm looking for suggestions for a neat vacation kind of midway between Iowa and Wyoming. Me and a friend want to meet somewhere neat. We love nature, aren't interested in cities. Someplace that doesn't cost a fortune to visit. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!
